1. Bomb: A strong metal container (usually stainless steel) that holds the sample and oxygen for combustion.
2. Sample Cup: Holds the fuel sample inside the bomb.
3. Oxygen Inlet: The bomb is filled with pure oxygen to support combustion.
4.Ignition System: Includes ignition wires or fuse connected to an electric source to ignite the sample.
5. Water Jacket: The bomb is surrounded by a known quantity of water that absorbs the heat released.
6.Thermometer or Temperature Sensor: Measures the rise in water temperature.
7.Stirrer: Ensures uniform distribution of heat in the water.
8.Insulated Outer Container: Minimizes heat loss to the environment.
9.The digital power supply delivers a precise voltage and current to an ignition wire or fuse (typically made of nickel-chromium or similar metal).
10. This wire is in contact with the fuel sample inside the bomb.
11.When current flows through it, the wire heats up and ignites the sample.
12.A digital power supply provides stable and adjustable output, allowing fine control over the energy sent for ignition.
13.This prevents premature ignition or insufficient energy to ignite the sample.
The bomb calorimeter works on the first law of thermodynamics – the heat released by the combustion of the fuel is absorbed by the surrounding water and the calorimeter.
It is used for determination of heat of combustion, calorific value and sulphur contents of solid and liquid fuels. The Bomb body and lid are machined from corrosion resisting stainless steel rod. It's capacity is approx. 300ml. It is provided with high pressure valve and electrodes. The calorimeter vassel and electrodes. The calorimeter vassel /stirrer FHP motor are provided and water jacket as per IP. The Bomb calorimeter is supplied with firing unit, Digital /Glass Beckman Thermometer, Pallet press, ignition Nichrome wire and pressure gauge with copper pipe fitting .
